McKenzie River bait ban coalition underway Minimize

You can find the survey here.

New Message from Erick Moberly Minimize
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking for individuals who fish the McKenzie River for TROUT to participate in Angler Catch Surveys.  These surveys can be done anytime of the year, on any stretch of the McKenzie River and will continue for at least 2 years.  Volunteers will not be required to participate for the entire two years.  I am only asking for individuals to collect data at their own leisure.  The more data we collect, the more accurate our results will be.

I have tried to make the survey form as easy to fill out as possible.  I have attached a sample of the data sheet for you to review.

If you would like to participate, I can send you a data sheet that is printed on Rite-in-the-Rain paper which makes it more durable to weather conditions.  You are also welcome to collect data on another source and fill out the data sheet at home when you are done fishing for the day.  Whatever you decide, it is very important that the data is accurate!

This project is very important and will be used to evaluate certain salmonid species abundances in the McKenzie River.

So if you would like to participate, let me know.  I can answer any questions you may have.  Feel free to forward this e-mail to others that may be interested.

If you would like to be taken off this list, please let me know.  Thanks for your consideration.

ODFW looking for volunteers to study the Middle Fork Minimize

The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife is looking for volunteers to assist with collecting information on Rainbow Trout in the Upper Willamette Watershed. Our goal is to collect samples from wild Rainbow Trout in many different areas of the watershed to compare the genetic differences between the different areas.

Sampling methods will include seining, backpack electrofishing, minnow trapping, angling and possibly other methods. All Volunteers will need to be capable of working in adverse weather conditions and be able to walk in cold, forested streams. There will be a considerable amount of hiking during the sampling to get from one area to another. I will be present for all sampling so I would only need 1-2 people per sampling day. You could either meet at the office and carpool with me or meet at the designated site. All sampling will be conducted during daylight hours and most likely take all day. Sampling will occur this Fall and possibly during the Winter / Spring of next year.

Areas that need to be sampled include: Mosby Creek, Coast Fork Willamette below Lynx Hollow, Middle Fork Willamette (above and below reservoirs) and the North Fork Middle Fork Willamette. The McKenzie will be sampled in the Spring before stocking of hatchery fish occurs. Others areas may also need additional sampling.

Please let me know (1) If you are interested; (2) If you have an area that you would like to participate; (3) Days during the week you are available including Weekends; ect.

I will compile a list of volunteers and contact you as volunteers are needed. Thanks for your consideration regarding this important study! Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
